Childhood memories

This photo was taken by my mom in the mid-80s in a zoo in Germany. I'm the lucky girl touching the elephant's nose. The man standing behind me is my father.

This picture stands representative for many memories of day trips my parents used to take me and my brother on. My father was an assembly fitter and would often be away from home for a while.

Whenever my dad came home he would take my family out somewhere interesting. We often went for walks in the nature, go to zoos, flower shows or amusement parks.

Even when I was a kid I couldn't help but notice the gleam in my father's eyes whenever he was having fun. He used to become a kid himself when he was out with us.

I edited the photo in photoshop, blurred out the other people and increasing the colours on me and my father. I did this because when the photo was taken I was caught in the moment.

I remember standing there, the elephant slowly approaching, me holding out my hand and my father making an awkward gasping sound when the elephant reached out with his trunk and touched my hand.

My mother must have been really quick with her camera, because I turned around just a second later, looking at my dad whide eyed and my dad looking back at me with a huge grin.

This is just one of those precious moments you will never forget.
